Like most dogs bred for hunting, German Shorthaired Pointer puppies can be highly energetic and demand a lot of exercise, training and interaction. They are not for everyone, but if you are an active, outdoorsy, Colorado person, they can be the perfect fit! Rory fit this bill to a “T”. She joined us first at the tender age of 12 weeks in our Puppy Head Start Program. This program allows us to get started imprinting the puppy on how to behave, address problem issues before they become ingrained, and to begin socializing them with other friendly puppies and adult dogs. The five days of day training are packed full of fun and learning for the pup, with the family being trained each afternoon at pick up.
Rory then returned at six months of age, when she had a bit more mental maturity, for her full adult training in our Perfect Pooch Program. German Shorthairs are so smart and interactive, they are always a pleasure to train, but with her earlier week of day training, Rory was even better than most. The prep work makes the dog’s final training a breeze! Rory graduated as a top student and is now living her best off-leash life! We are so happy for her and her family! Early training really does make all the difference.

We have a German Shorthair Pointer puppy that we enrolled in the initial puppy class at 12 weeks old, followed by the 2 week board and train when she was 6 months old. Their training program is extensive, both on-site and trips to social and other settings to work with the dog in various environments with distractions and other challenges a dog faces in every day life. It’s all worked well as we’ve had her home now almost a month since the 2 week board and train and have an incredibly trained GSP. Now it’s up to us as the owners to keep the dog trained and continue to grow, which Blackpaw continues to support.
