Carmen

Carmen came to us as a young pup needing basic training with her person’s goal of eventually achieving off-leash reliability. Her owner is an experienced Rhodesian Ridgeback owner and understands that Carmen will develop into a large and powerful dog. The breed can be independent and challenging to train and very protective of their family.

Her mom wanted to make sure she got started off on the right foot and didn’t develop any bad behaviors early on. So, we first got started with Carmen in our Puppy Head Start program at just ten weeks of age, setting the foundation for future learning, socializing her with other dogs, and making sure she found training fun and engaging.

When Carmen returned at six months of age for her big girl training, she picked right up where she left off. She quickly took to the vibrating collar, learning that we use it as a tactile communication tool and she soon began enjoying off leash adventures with us around Boulder. Carmen comes back to the farm from time to time for boarding with benefits, helping to maintain her excellent behavior and training skills.

“My ridgeback puppy trained with Black Paw for three weeks. I have learned so much about communicating and connecting with my dog. Carmen has Become a more confident dog since working the program. I am glad I gave her this start.”
